Designs Sebastian has developed for clients. Usually as one offs. But given the nature of Sebastian’s designs, some of these have been developed in such a way that they can be reproduced.
This stunningly beautiful walnut and crystal clear acrylic dining table was commissioned for a client in North Portugal. She had chosen the Mantide chairs as her chair of choice and needed a huge dining table, 4.3m x 1m to go with the 12 chairs. Our French supplier had found us an exceptional trunk of walnut. Cut and planked 12yrs prior to the construction of this table. The tree had come from a small private estate in the Loire Valley. When one has 12 chairs around a dining table it can get quite busy. I wanted a base that not only showcased the stunningly beautiful walnut and did not increase to the busyness of 48 chair legs. The idea of using crystal came to mind quite quickly. The challenge was finding the crafts people to do the job properly. The table has no fixings. The whole assembly stabilises purely under its own weight.
Another amazing collaboration with fantastic craftsmen. @inplas_fabrications
The inspiration for the sculptural console originated from the clients request to design a piece of furniture that would bring lots of energy and purpose into an empty corner of their room. This corner had originally housed a spiral staircase and so the design evolved.
The console was built using solid laminated sycamore combine with hand crafted, bronze rod with a beaten bronze bowl.
These tables came as a later commission to compliment the Sculptural console and to provide the living room with feeling of balance and harmony. The two side tables are constructed using solid sycamore and hand forged solid bronze rod.
This chaise constructed using CNC cut aluminium and brass components combined with American Cherry and upholstered in an Ocelot print cotton velvet was designed and built to a clients specific requirements. i.e. create a daybed/armchair for the client to be able to put in their study to either as a reading armchair or as a daybed. The traditionally sprung seat and back panel were constructed to suit clients height, weight and usage. The cylindrical arm and head rests can rotate to avoid continual ware in any one spot.
This Chaise lounge, daybed can be reproduced, customised and tailored to new clients requirements and interior designs. We also have other spin off daybed and chaise-longue designs that we are happy to demonstrate.
These solid French Oak consoles evolved out of a clients request to design and build something complimentary to a solid French Oak staircase we had built for them. Wanting consoles or side tables to sit in the main hallway of their property these two consoles pick up on the 70mm thick solid Oak treads and risers of the staircase.
These zigzag consoles can be reproduced, possibly also in different managed forestry timbers. American Black Walnut, European Walnut and also possibly in Cherry. Dimensions to clients requirements.
This design was for a client to store their monthly magazines and Sunday newspapers is built using travertine from Italy, cut by local stone masons. The two brass rods have been accurately bent to create the serpentine form and legs, making it an 'easy' task to slide the traditionally stitched hide over the form.
The clients magazine rack sits on top of a chestnut wood base, elevating the rack to a more comfortable height for them. Unfortunately photos of this extra feature isn't available. This design can be reproduced to clients requirements.
These came in as an additional commission from the same clients as the Zigzag Consoles and a large French Oak Staircase. Although the design was primarily a ‘free thought’ concept there is a sort of subliminal reference to the Mayan culture. Made from really beautiful, quarter sawn French Oak we thought they deserved a strong name. Itzamná was the paramount God of the Maya’s, the harbinger of wisdom and patron of the arts and sciences. With the stepped and mirrored pyramid shape of the bases we felt that a Mayan title would be perfectly suited. The Itzamná Coffee and side table set can be reproduced to client specifications and in a choice of different managed forestry hardwoods.
Every now and again we are asked to design bases for glass table tops. Not particularly crazy about glass table tops we will only do this for a client who has bought chairs from us. These two glass table examples utilise a similar concept. Simple, chunky table base that create stability through their own centre of gravity. One of these bases was made from some ancient carved Indian beams that I had picked up along the way and the other has custom made base that picked up on the aluminium and American black walnut of the Mantide chairs the client had already purchased.
The oak dining table was designed and crafted specifically for a client who chose the Antilope chair to accompany it. This table incorporates the legs of our Antilope chair as part of the base structure. This dining table has the ability for the height to be adjusted. A user friendly mechanism that creates a versatile and user friendly table.
This is really a one off built for a client who wanted a cabinet for her study where she could store her art materials. Built using American Cherry and hide clad draw fronts the interior of the draws are made in quarter sawn Ash wood. Dimensions were to clients requirements.
